Hillsdale is a classic Pascack Valley borough of well-loved mid-century homes set on tree-lined streets near the train station. Local housing skews toward tree-lined streets filled with mid-century classics — cape cods, ranches, center-hall colonials and split-levels, many on tidy lots near the downtown by the train station, and framed-to-frameless replacements, family-bath updates, and tight builder-bath retrofits make up the bulk of our install calendar here. If your own project sounds like one of the case studies below, jump to the Hillsdale service page or text Jessica from the contact section.

Shower-door highlights

Shower enclosures are our highest-volume category in Hillsdale by a wide margin. The borough’s housing mix means most of the work is framed-to-frameless replacements in existing bathrooms rather than new construction — though we do both. A few recent installs that show the range:

Frameless replacement in a 1960s split-level

A family in a 1962 split-level off Broadway had a builder framed slider with a corroded bottom track that had been leaking onto the subfloor for years. We pulled the old enclosure, found and repaired the water damage in the substrate, and installed a single frameless inline door with a fixed return panel in 3/8-inch clear glass with brushed nickel hardware. The original opening was three-quarters of an inch out of plumb top to bottom — common in a sixty-year-old wood-framed wall — so we hand-templated to fit and used tapered clip backing to keep the door swinging dead-true. Two-and-a-half-week turnaround.

Corner enclosure in a Cape Cod retrofit

A 1947 Cape Cod near downtown was being prepped for sale and the listing agent wanted the dated upstairs bath updated without a full remodel. We installed a 90-degree corner frameless enclosure in 3/8-inch low-iron with matte black hardware over the existing tile, which the owners had refreshed with a fresh grout job. Frameless on the original tile transformed the room without touching the plumbing. The house listed and sold the same month.

Hinged door over a tile curb in a colonial

A two-story 1955 colonial north of Hillsdale Avenue had a non-standard 48-inch shower with an existing 4-inch tile curb. The owners wanted frameless without rebuilding the curb. We templated the curb true to its as-built grade — slightly out of level — and fabricated a 28-inch hinged frameless door with a fixed inline panel in 3/8-inch clear glass. The door clears the curb on every open without binding. Install was a single afternoon.

Mirror highlights

Most Hillsdale homeowners don’t realize how dated their builder-grade bathroom mirror looks until they see it next to a single seamless piece of polished mirror. Custom mirrors are an underrated upgrade — usually less than ten percent of the cost of a shower-enclosure project, and they make the whole room read more finished. Recent examples:

Custom 60-inch single-piece vanity mirror

A 2010s renovation in a Hillsdale colonial had a 60-inch double-sink vanity with a builder-grade framed mirror that had broken its hanging hardware. The owners wanted a single piece, polished edge, with no frame. We fabricated a 60×40 mirror in 1/4-inch silvered, polished all four edges, and anchored with hidden clips behind the sconces. The replacement reads more modern than the original framed pair and shows the new lighting properly.

Other glass work

Beyond showers and mirrors, Hillsdale keeps us busy with the full range — glass railings, painted-glass backsplashes, glass tabletops, and the occasional commercial storefront:

Glass shelving in a built-in cabinet

A small project that mattered to the homeowner: an antique built-in china cabinet on the dining wall of an older Hillsdale colonial had warped wood shelves. The owners didn't want to refinish the cabinet — they liked the patina — so we cut five custom-fit 3/8-inch tempered glass shelves with polished edges to the exact non-square dimensions of the original openings. Single afternoon install, transformed a $50 part replacement into a piece that displays the family's china properly for the first time in decades.

Why Hillsdale chooses AGM

Hillsdale is the Pascack Valley in miniature — well-cared-for older homes that the owners plan to stay in. People here aren't ripping out tile to start over; they're upgrading the one or two pieces that drag the rest of the room down. A frameless enclosure on a thirty-year-old subway-tile shower, a clean polished mirror to replace the dated framed one — small interventions that pay back daily for years. A few specifics that matter: our Midland Park showroom is about 12 minutes from your door, our crew templates and installs every job in-house (no subcontractor handoffs), and the written quote after the free in-home measure is the price — no fees added at install for site conditions we should have caught earlier.
